Eastside Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) – Rusk County, Texas
The Eastside Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1989 and officially established in 1990 to serve the residents of eastern Rusk County. As a volunteer-based department, Eastside VFD is committed to protecting lives, property, and the surrounding rural landscape through dependable emergency response.
The department is currently staffed by 17 dedicated members, including 12 certified firefighters and 4 certified first responders. This trained team provides fire suppression, emergency medical response, rescue operations, and assistance during natural disasters and other emergencies. Through ongoing training, members maintain readiness for incidents ranging from structure fires to wildland operations.
Eastside VFD operates a fleet of five trucks to serve its district. In early 2026, the department added two new apparatus: a brand-new wet rescue truck and a 2,100-gallon water tender, strengthening both rescue and water supply capabilities. The fleet also includes one engine and two brush trucks, and the department houses Rusk County’s backup brush truck to support broader emergency response efforts.
As a volunteer department, Eastside VFD is not staffed 24/7 at the station. For all emergencies, residents are asked to call 911 to ensure the fastest possible response. For non-emergency questions, comments, or concerns, you may call 903-889-2330 and leave a detailed message with a callback number.
Community engagement remains a priority, and residents are encouraged to stay connected by following the department on Facebook at Eastside Volunteer Fire Department for updates, safety information, and news.
